the art of movement

This week we are inspired by the stunning images of The Art of Movement, the new coffee table book by photographers Ken Browar and Deborah Ory aka NYC Dance Project.

This amazing book is over 300 pages, capturing principals from the New York City Ballet, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Royal Ballet, Boston Ballet and more world-famous dance troupes.

The photographers manage to freeze the dancers not in a pose but in an expression of movement, evoking the feeling we as an audience have while actually watching the dancers perform. The lighting and framing are very sensitive to this, forming a stage instead of a flat picture.

We were so inspired by this book that we filled several pages in our sketchbook with drawings of these beautiful bodies moving so flawlessly!

We hope the Art of Movement inspires our readers too.
