mother memorial

Every day should be Mother’s Day.

Mother's Day is a modern celebration honoring one's own mother, as well as motherhood, maternity, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers at home, in the community, in our society.

Yet as the memorial day itself was fraught with mixed emotions - most especially by the holiday creator herself - so too have our feelings about it swayed and shifted through the years.

Whether influenced by our own love-hate conflicts or recollections or histories - either with our own moms or mother figures as our own roles change and evolve - who or what determines the outcome?

As women's place in the world are defined and redefined, women all over the world describe and define themselves in new and empowered ways.

Yet if we were to ask anyone what the most important day of the year is to them, the answers may range from birthdays to Christmas to Election Day. How many will say Mother’s Day?

What are our personal beliefs regarding the concept of motherhood or the state of being a mother?

It is such an important issue that is often overlooked in all the attendant external hoopla of the day.
